Captain Bob Mollet has been involved in the marine industry on the British Columbia coast all his working life. His personal interest is commercial power boating in the coastal areas, hence the formation of Datum Marine Services Ltd, incorporated in April 1999.
Capt. Mollet retired from the RCMP in 1996 after 21 years, mostly in the Marine Section, where he was involved in teaching and developing marine training programs in the RCMP throughout most of his service.
In 1997 Datum Marine Services Ltd. was awarded the contract to teach the RCMP Basic Water Transport course, as a "pilot program". This was the first time the RCMP had hired a contractor to teach and coordinate this course. This was also the first time occasion where they used vessels supplied by the contractor and worked out of a facility coordinated by the contractor.
This program has been highly successful and Datum Marine Services is now completing their 11th year conducting this program. In this 11 year period (1997-2007), Datum Marine Services Ltd. has been responsible for the delivery and maintenance of the RCMP Water Transport courses. Capt. Mollet has also been responsible to the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre as their "subject matter expert".
Capt. Mollet has acted as liaison between PRTC and Transport Canada to research and implement necessary changes to the RCMP's marine training programs. He has also rewritten the Basic Water Transport and Advanced Water Transport courses to ensure compliance with Transport Canada's Small Vessel Operator Proficiency requirements. ((SVOP))
